Welcome to Bugs & Blooms: Cultivating the Midwest's Premier Plant & Isopod Destination

If you’ve ever stepped foot into our shop at 202 E. 9th St. here in Mio, Michigan, or browsed our collections online at bugsblooms.com, you already know that we aren’t your typical local greenhouse.

We started Bugs & Blooms with a massive, clear cut vision: to build the premier plant and isopod destination in Michigan and the wider Midwest.

For our very first blog post, we wanted to pull back the curtain, share exactly where we are heading, and explain why we are so passionate about bridging the worlds of unique flora and fascinating micro-fauna.

Cultivating Northern Michigan’s Most Complete Plant Store

When people think of Northern Michigan, they think of incredible natural beauty, and we want to bring that beauty indoors. We are dedicated to creating an unparalleled botanical hub.

Whether you are a beginner looking for a hardy houseplant, an interior designer searching for a stunning mounted air plant, or a seasoned collector hunting for distinct tropical varieties, our goal is completeness. We offer an extensive, ever growing selection of over one hundred varieties of plants, custom terrariums, and artistic mounts designed to bring a thriving piece of nature directly into your home, office, or storefront.

A Living Legacy: Unique Plant-Based Memorial Arrangements

In addition to everyday decor, we are incredibly proud to offer a specialized service that redefines how we honor our loved ones. We design custom funeral and memorial arrangements crafted entirely from living plants, terrariums, and mounts completely free of temporary cut flowers. Instead of an arrangement that fades in a few days, we create beautiful, lasting living tributes that families can take home to care for, grow, and cherish for years to come as a true living legacy.

Becoming Michigan’s Ultimate Isopod Farm & Breeder

While our green walls continue to grow, something equally incredible is happening right beneath the canopy. Bugs & Blooms is rapidly scaling to become the largest, most trusted isopod dealer, breeder, and farmer in the state of Michigan.

As we speak, our breeding facilities are actively managing and cultivating between 100 and 135 unique species of isopods, and we are rapidly expanding our facility to reach 150+ species in the near future.

Why isopods? These amazing little invertebrates are the heroes of the natural world. If you are building a bio-active terrarium, isopods act as the ultimate "clean-up crew," keeping your ecosystem healthy, clean, and balanced alongside springtails. Beyond their incredible utility, the sheer diversity of colors, patterns, and behaviors across different species has made them a captivating hobby for enthusiasts all over the United States.

Introducing Collectible Invertebrate Micro-Habitats

To make diving into this hobby easier and more affordable than ever, we are thrilled to introduce our exclusive line of Collectible Isopod Micro-Habitats. These are beautifully designed, compact, closed terrariums that serve as the perfect low-maintenance desktop ecosystem. Each micro-habitat comes complete with its own starter colony of a specific, fascinating isopod species. It provides a budget-friendly, space-saving way for beginners to start their first colony, or for seasoned keepers to build a stunning, living "collection display" of different unique species side-by-side.

By prioritizing healthy, home-produced cultures and offering nationwide overnight delivery, we are putting Mio, Michigan on the map as a national leader in premium biodiversity.

Expanding Our Roots: The Boutique Partnership Program We believe premium biodiversity should be accessible. To help bring our unique green selections closer to where you live, Bugs & Blooms is launching an exclusive Wholesale and Boutique Partnership Program.

We are partnering with select gift shops, local boutiques, and specialty retailers across the region to feature curated displays of our premium plants and custom arrangements. For shop owners looking to add a vibrant, traffic-driving green element to their storefront with a seamless, vendor-managed setup, we offer incredibly flexible, stress-free retail partnerships. Keep an eye out for our unique selections popping up in a boutique near you!

Inspiring a Passion for Nature's Wonders

At the core of our mission is a simple belief: a complete ecosystem is a beautiful one. Nature doesn't separate the plants from the soil life, and neither do we. By offering premium biodiversity delivered directly to your doorstep, we hope to inspire a lifelong passion for nature's unique growth and smallest wonders.
